During April through June of 2017, I participated in the Queens Council on the Arts ArtHotel residency program. I was granted a stipend and room to work in (emptied of furniture) on the second floor of the ZHotel. Situated in a commercially zoned industrial area in Long Island City, it was isolated from the massive towers and residential streets closer to transportation hubs. I filled the room (including the bathroom) with images from journeys to and from the hotel, shot with a point and shoot camera, like a tourist, localizing the blank slate of a room with postcard views of Manhattan and the neighborhood outside.
